Stain glass

Prior to seeing the amount of labor and patience required to create stain glass pieces,  I didn't relay care for it and didn't know much about it; although, I do have a greater appreciation for the art of stain glass. What surprised me the most was the amount of time required and if you happen to mess something up, for example the color, you would have to start an entire piece over. Also, doing the hands on stain glass piece was kind of stress relieving for me, and even watching our instructors do it was relaxing.

  1. I agree, Haley. I hadn't realized before that stained glass pieces are quite labor-intensive. This example shows that a lot of work goes into ordinary objects that we use every day. We never really appreciate the brainstorming, planning, or work that goes into bathrooms, cars, or kitchens, for example. It is a good reminder that we should take a "step back" and appreciate the conveniences in our lives.

  2. It seems like stained glass art takes much more effort and practice than more traditional forms like painting. I think it would be difficult to be one of the artists whose work was destroyed during WWII, but I suppose it must be commonplace when their art is displayed in such public and vulnerable places; even a strong storm could destroy them.
