"Acting" Unaware

At the Lumiere Brothers Museum, I learned that in some of their first films, the brothers didn't hire professional actors to play roles. Instead, they asked local factory workers to be in the movie. They were told to ignore the camera for their "role." This example shows how having hands-on experience with a topic can help ensure trust in experts. If the listener has a bit of knowledge about a topic previously, the expert's findings, reports, and opinions can more easily be trusted.

  1. I thought the video clips of the workers coming from the factory were very amusing. I never would have considered the idea that the workers kept their heads down and wore their best clothing, until our tour guide said something.

  2. It was very interesting to see the clip of the workers. For the brothers, it was probably priceless for them to have workers play the roles which was a smart tactic and interesting to see in action.

  3. I thought it was was also very interesting that even though so many people were working with him he wanted them to be a family. I also thought it was weird that they just ignored the camera because even if they did not know the camera was there some people would probably still look at it but to have no one even make eye contact with the camera was interesting.
